Republicanism and democracy in contemporary political theory and history: Reflections from the Río de la Plata
Synopsis
This book constitutes the second installment of the Law, History and Politics Collection, whose directors are Emanuel Olivares and Sabrina Morán, and is part of a contemporary interdisciplinary line of research, which integrates tools, intuitions and concerns from philosophy, science and political history. In particular, it should be noted that the nine chapters that make up this work of collective authorship have been forged in the most specific deliberative context of the Virtual Academic Seminar “Republicanism and Democracy in Contemporary Political Theory and History” held on June 23 and 24, 2022 with the sponsorship of four public scientific organizations: CONICET–IEHSOLP (Institute of Historical and Social Studies of La Pampa–National Council for Scientific and Technical Research–National University of La Pampa, Argentina), FCEyJ–UNLPam (Faculty of Sciences Economic and Legal Studies – National University of La Pampa, Argentina), the IIGG-UBA (Gino Germani Research Institute – University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), and the IESH – UNLPam (Institute of Socio-Historical Studies – National University of La Pampa, Argentina). The main goal of this work is to offer a cartography of the contemporary River Plate debates on the concepts of republicanism, democracy and populism, which contributes to the current citizen debate on the horizon of intelligibility, reasonableness and acceptability of our life together.
